I love most things about my country, and I love being an American, but I find it hard to be proud. I know there are a lot of people with the “if you don’t like it leave” mentality, if that’s you all I ask is that you hear me out before commenting or click the X in the upper right hand corner. It is a “free” country after all. I however am of the “if you don’t like it, try to change it” mentality.

In 1776 we declared independence from the British and set forth to create a country for the people. A country where people were free to explore religion and not have their personal lives micromanaged by politicians. A government that listened to and worked for the people, ALL of the people.

It’s now 241 years later and people live in fear of practicing certain religions, the Bible is waved around like a political document, racism is rampant, our leader bullies and taunts people on social media like a teenager. We have a government that is fueled by money where the rich get richer by standing on the backs of the poor. People can’t freely and openly marry or love the person they are attracted to unless it fits the mold of opposite sex same race. Before you label me a liberal Trump hater, this goes beyond him. Do I think he is a horrible example of what a world leader should be….yes, am I a liberal….if being a liberal means I see everyone as equals, yep, and I see no reason to be ashamed of it. The problems in our government are deeper, he is just a harsh glaring reminder of how we are not growing and adapting as a country.

I’m not blind to the fact that as a white male American, I probably have it better than a large portion of the world, but I still think that we as a country should be better, demand that our leaders are better and be an example to the world.

  1. The main problem is that politician’s want people to integrate totally into the society the choose to live in. ‘Great and so they should’ we cry. So intergration is the problem and one that is hard to solve, as humans gravitate to their own for familiarity, safety and to keep the values theywere brought up with (wither they be good or bad). We know what works, we have to lead by example, show the way. But politician’s won’t evolve, won’t embrace intergrate and have an all sharing for the greater good of the country. They are the ones who need to be a team, gatherers of ideas, finding solutions. Instead they want to say ‘my way is the only way, I am the leader. Time for polaticians to debate together as one team. But who am I to think anything about anything …

  2. It cannot be all or nothing! There has to be middle ground but that said…goodness and respect must always be at the forefront! It has become so easy to insult and hurt each other. “If there is no peace it is because we have forgotten we belong to one another.” ~ St. Theresa Of Calcutta
